The fate of William the Conqueror has been closely linked to Le Vaudreuil, which highlights this story during a special weekend. A true medieval village comes to life, blending reenactments, demonstrations, music, and communal activities. The event brings together history, martial arts, craftsmanship, and camaraderie, all centered on the figure of the archer and Normandy during the time of William the Conqueror. Medieval music accompanies the entire weekend with Saltabraz, an ensemble specializing in the reproduction of period instruments based on archaeological research. Demonstrations, processions, and dance performances punctuate the event, culminating in the costumed parade on Sunday at noon. Heritage takes center stage thanks to the traveling exhibition from the Crépy-en-Valois Archery Museum,Valois, dedicated to the history of archery through ancient artifacts from various countries, and the presentation of works by “L’Outil en main” in Saint-Cyr-du-Vaudreuil, centered on the theme of the Millennium. The Ran Normaund troupe recreates daily life in an 11th-century Norman village: crafts, customs, battles in chain mail, and medieval navigation with a reconstructed Viking longship offering a mini-cruise down the Eure River. Archery is also in the spotlight with the company La Flèche au Vent d’Angy, which offers commentary-led demonstrations of medieval tournaments and introductory sessions in longbow shooting. On Sunday, a Millennium Mass led by the choir of the Amis de Notre-Dame du Vaudreuil precedes a costumed parade bringing together archers and men-at-arms. The weekend is rounded out by a medieval-inspired tavern, a family scavenger hunt, and a series of panels created by Seine?Eure, dedicated to William’s companions during the conquest of England.
