Château de Gaillon

%C0 To mark European Heritage Days, the Château de Gaillon is offering a series of themed tours dedicated to its medieval history. The series invites visitors to explore the site’s origins, prior to its transformations during the Renaissance, while also addressing current issues in heritage conservation. The tours trace the castle’s evolution from a defensive fortress designed to protect the Norman border to a stately residence linked to the archbishopsof Rouen. They highlight the architectural changes and the successive uses of the site over the centuries. A second section presents the contemporary objectives of the restoration project. It explores the trade-offs between preserving the monument and enhancing its value, in order to adapt the site to current expectations regarding public engagement and educational outreach. Conceived as a space for dialogue, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on the castle and conservation practices through an accessible approach rooted in today’s challenges.
