What is the Seine Normande, from station to station?

It’s a 98.3km, 4-day itinerary in Normandy accessible by train! It’s an itinerary that takes in the Seine Valley between Rouen and Vernon-Giverny stations in 4 stages, along the route of the GR®2, mainly on its Normandy variant on the right bank of the river.

  • Stage 1: Rouen – Les Authieux-sur-le-Port-Saint-Ouen.

  • Stage 2: Les Authieux-sur-le-Port-Saint-Ouen – Val-de-Reuil.

  • Stage 3 Val-de-Reuil – Aubevoye.

  • Stage 4 Aubevoye – Vernon.

As a reminder and for the more sporty, the GR® 2 links Dijon to Le Havre, via Paris and Rouen. It follows the Seine from its source to its mouth over 852 kilometres of continuous signposted route.

Step 1:

Rouen - Les Authieux-sur-le-Port-Saint-Ouen

23.2 km

This first 23.2km stage will give you the chance to discover Rouen and its famous “Gros horloge”, its cathedral and historic city centre, as well as breathtaking views over the Seine such as the Côte Sainte-Catherine and the Saint-Adrien hills.

Step 2:

Les Authieux-sur-le-Port-Saint-Ouen - Val-de-Reuil.

24.4 km

This leg takes in the Côte des Deux Amants, which offers one of the finest panoramic views of the Seine valley in Normandy, before crossing the river at the Poses dam and lock. Of particular note is the passage through the Léry-Poses park in Normandy, with its water sports activities and the “Biotropica” animal gardens for an exotic break!

Step 3:

Val-de-Reuil - Aubevoye

24.5 km

This third stage alternates between walking along the banks of the Seine and the hills overlooking the river. Among the sites to discover are the village of Le Vaudreuil, the churches of Saint-Etienne and Saint-Pierre-du-Vauvray, and the feudal motte at Venables. A remarkable site at the end of the route is the Château de Gaillon, the first example of Renaissance architecture in France, which can be visited in fine weather!

Step 4:

Aubevoye - Vernon

25.7 km

This stage takes you across the Seine to the bridge at Courcelles-sur-Seine before crossing the river again at Vernon, where you can admire its famous mill and the Château des Tourelles. The second half of the route is heavily wooded, and takes in the famous “Gargantua gravel”, the church of Sainte-Geneviève and the Port-Mort dam.

Walking enthusiasts or seasoned hikers, enjoy the landscapes of the Normandy Seine over 4 days, without taking the car.
