The sumptuous Bord-Louviers state forest, once the property of the Dukes of Normandy and then the royal forest of the Kingdom of France, was shaped by both Mother Nature and the hand of Man. Managed by the ONF today, the forest is ideal for sports and leisure activities in all seasons, while respecting a fragile ecosystem.
Appreciated by walkers, cyclists and horse riders, walking routes of 1.6km, 12 km and 44 km of GR cross the forest estate. Experienced walkers can practice power walking on two signposted loops of 15km and 30km.
For sports enthusiasts who want to work on their cardio and muscle strengthening, the health trail located in the commune of Les Damps is ideal for outdoor exercise, on a circuit punctuated by several stops corresponding to different physical exercises. Make the most of the forest and enjoy a complete and varied workout!
To discover the forest in a fun way with your children, go in search of the 7 remarkable trees inventoried with the help of a map available from the Seine-Eure Tourist Office. These natural curiosities include the 39-metre-high Tabouel beech and the oak that swallowed the sign on its trunk. Enough to fascinate toddlers and budding botanists alike!
Enter the Bord-Louviers forest in the hope of meeting some interesting people. Here, wild boar, hinds, stags, roe deer, badgers, foxes and squirrels live in complete freedom. To observe this unsuspected wildlife, you’ll need to be discreet and move around undetected.
Attend from mid-September to mid-October the spectacle of the brame des cerfs. In the evening and early morning, this mating season ritual is an opportunity to listen to the stags in full flirt session braming at the top of their lungs. It’s a unique experience that young and old alike wouldn’t want to miss for the world!
Flora lovers come here to admire the primroses, wood violets, sylvie anemones and orchids in flower. Two botanical trails reveal the main tree species – beech, oak and Scots pine – and the multitude of bird and insect species that they shelter.
In the absence of natural predators, hunting is authorised in the Bord-Louviers forest to regulate game and preserve natural resources in a sustainable manner. Shooting is carried out from October to the end of February, while the hound hunting period runs from September to the end of March. Visit the L’Office National des Forêts website to find out more about hunting days.
