The top 10 walks in Seine-Eure!

One hour’s drive from Paris, Seine-Eure’s vast network of waymarked paths, greenways, footpaths and hiking trails reveals some great surprises for seasoned hikers or neophytes venturing off the beaten track. A light rucksack, good walking shoes, a map or a GPS: you’re all set for some great escapades.

Here’s a selection of 10 itineraries, ranging from 5 to 22km, to discover the charming villages, fascinating heritage, lakes, rivers and wild expanses of Seine-Eure.

Walking in the Valley

The Eure Valley is full of fabulous natural landscapes and unsuspected places to explore on 5 hiking trails between Val-de-Reuil in the north and Amfreville-sur-Iton in the south.

  • Les Sentiers de Val-de-Reuil (15km – 4h – easy level)

Starting from Val-de-Reuil SNCF station, this route offers a range of varied landscapes: the contemporary city of France’s youngest town, the banks of the River Eure and the forest paths of the Bord-Louviers national forest.

  • Les Sentiers de l’Iton (11km – 3h- easy level)
  • Starting from the church in Amfreville-sur-Iton, this trail immerses you in unusual landscapes. Between watercourses, the remains of ancient mills, sumptuous panoramas over the Eure and Iton valleys from hillsides sculpted by the elements, this route takes you through history, nature and a remarkable heritage.

    • Pinterville: History and Nature (10km – 4h – easy level)

    Starting from the car park at the Sainte-Trinité church in Pinterville, this route reveals a charming village with a rural character, with its castle and charming homes. This trail through plains, hillsides, forests and undergrowth combines the virtues of walking with the discovery of a rich fauna and flora, including a multitude of varieties of wild orchids.

    Walking in the Valley

    of the Seine

    A true place of inspiration for Impressionist painters who came here to set up their easels in the middle of nature, the Seine Valley enchants walkers and hiking enthusiasts. These 5 circuits are renowned for the beauty of the reflections of the water, the plunging views over the Seine and its wooded slopes.

    • Les Deux Vallées (19km- 4h – easy level)

    Starting from Val-de-Reuil SNCF station, set off to discover the Eure valley with its waterfalls and old lock before skirting the lakes at the Léry-Poses leisure centre. In a wild and unspoilt environment, follow the course of the Seine, lined with chalky hillsides and spectacular rock formations. A great opportunity to observe these landscapes sculpted by Mother Nature.

    • Les Deux Amants (5km – 2h- medium level)

    Starting from the locks at Amfreville-sous-les-Monts, this circuit, located at the confluence of the Andelle and Seine rivers allows you to explore one of the highlights of Seine-Eure. During this walk, unique flora and fauna are on offer to walkers, as well as grandiose panoramas over the Seine valley.

    • Around Connelles (7km- 2h – medium level)

    Starting from the town hall square in Connelles, visit this charming village set in a hillside valley, its Saint-Vaast church, 15th-century mill and troglodyte dwellings carved out of the chalk. A Natura 2000 area, the hillsides overlooking the Seine are used by the GR2 and are classified as an Important Bird Area (IBA). The cliffs are a delight for nature-climbing enthusiasts.

    • Les Côtes du Vauvray (11km – 3h – difficult level)

    Starting from the church in Saint-Pierre-du-Vauvray, explore the sumptuous steep chalky hillsides to meet the exceptional flora and fauna they shelter: orchids, green lizards, mountain cicadas, praying mantises, butterflies and a multitude of birds. Along the way, a breathtaking panoramic view of the Seine valley and a viewpoint over Louviers await hikers.

    • Les Coteaux d’Heudebouville (8km – 2h – medium level)

    Starting from the car park at the verger de la Recette in Heudebouville, a beautiful getaway awaits you. Succumb to the charm of this picturesque village with its priory on the banks of the Seine, its splendid bread oven and its remarkable natural setting. The surrounding hillsides are classified as a Zone Naturelle d’Intérêt Ecologique, Faunistique et Floristique (ZNIEFF) for the diversity of species that call the area home.

    Also explore the 30km-long Voie Verte between Pont-de-l’Arche and Pinterville, running along the banks of the Eure in an abundance of nature!

    On the other side of the Seine, take the Sentier des Azurés to discover the hillsides of Vironvay and Saint-Pierre-du-Vauvray!

    Beware, in the absence of natural predators, hunting is authorised in the Bord-Louviers forest to regulate game and sustainably preserve natural resources.
